Testimonials
I have two boys, Avery (11) and Theo (8). Avery attended Cub Scout summer camp every year from Tiger through Webelos and Arrow of Light. Theo has followed closely behind, attending every year so far from Tiger through Bear. Camp McLoughlin has been a constant thread through their childhoods — and through my growth as a parent.
The activities are always incredible. Archery, slingshots, BB guns, canoeing — and of course the polar plunge, which somehow never gets old. Every year, camp manages to strike that perfect balance of excitement, challenge, and fun that keeps kids engaged and parents smiling.
My role at camp has changed over the years. The first year, I attended only as a parent. The next two, I had the privilege of serving as a Cubmaster. The last two years, I returned again as a parent. No matter the role, the experience never lost its impact. The staff at Camp McLoughlin have always been wonderful — patient, accommodating, encouraging, and genuinely invested in the kids having a great experience. You can feel that they care.
What I didn’t expect was how much camp would mean to me personally. Watching my boys gain confidence, try new things, support each other, and come home buzzing with stories has been incredibly rewarding. Camp gave me something I didn’t have growing up: shared traditions, intentional time, and memories built side by side. Sometimes I honestly don’t know who enjoys Camp McLoughlin more — me, the boys, or me getting to be with the boys.
Camp McLoughlin isn’t just a place where Cub Scouts learn skills or earn rank-related experiences. It’s a place where families grow together, where parents and kids connect in meaningful ways, and where memories are made that will last far beyond the last canoe ride or campfire. I’m deeply grateful for what this camp has given my family, and I know we’re not the only ones.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are there wagons?
We have very few. You are encouraged to bring your own.
Can I drive to my campsite?
No, due to the safety for our campers and staff.
Do I have to take the swim test?
No, but it is recommended if you wish to swim outside of the non-swimmer area.
What does the swim test entail?
Jump feet first into water that’s over your head in depth. Swim 100 yards in one swim style (without stops and including at least one sharp turn). The first 75 yards must be done in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; the last 25 yards must be done using an easy resting backstroke. After completing the swim, rest by floating.
Can we wait in our campsite for the rest of the group to arrive?
Unfortunately, no. We would like the entire pack to be present when you are brought into camp. This allows us to receive all of the medical forms and your pack to start the tour on time.
What is the difference between Cub sessions and the Webelos / AOL session? Can Webelos / AOL attend Cub sessions?
Webelos session program is designed for just Webelos and their requirements. We have a special Webelos AOL ceremony that we only do during Webelos week. Webelos can attend the Cub sessions.
What kinds of wildlife can be seen at camp?
We have a wide variety of wildlife at camp McLoughlin. We often see deer, toads, bats, squirrels, chipmunks, hawks, ospreys, herons, and bald eagles. We very rarely see predators such as mountain lions and bears.
What's the weather like at camp?
Camp temperature and weather often vary. It can be freezing in the mornings and very hot throughout the day. It is usually dry in the summer, but we can sometimes get rain along with thunder and lightning.
