leadership training
National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an exciting, action-packed program designed to provide youth with leadership skills and experience they can apply in their troop or crew and in other situations requiring leadership of self and others.
NYLT is a six-day course that emphasizes hands-on learning in a fun, engaging environment. Through a blend of activities, presentations, challenges, discussions, and games, participants will develop confidence and leadership abilities while working together as a team. This course brings together the best of over 100 years of Scouting experience into a model that can be used by any youth leader in any situation.

Location:Â Camp McLoughlin
Cost:Â $400
Financial aid may be available. Apply for a Campership.Â
Registration
Registration is open for the 2026 NYLT course! Registration ends June 7th at 11:59 PM.Â
Participant Qualifications
In order to attend an NYLT course, youth must meet the following qualifications by the beginning of the course:
- Registration: Must be a registered member of Scouting America.
- Age: Must be at least 13 years old by the first day of the course and no older than 21 years old.
- Prior Training: Must have completed the Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops or Crews (ILST/ILSC).
- Rank (for Troop members): Must have achieved the rank of First Class (not required for Venturing/Sea Scout participants).

The 2026 National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is looking for staff for this fun youth training! Come join our team and help integrate Scouting Skills into the daily life of participants!
Staff Requirements
To be eligible to staff the 2026 NYLT course, you must meet the following requirements:
- Must have attended NYLT
- Must be at least 14 years old
- Must be able to dedicate time for staff development dates
- Must be able to attend the entire course
