2025 Rendezvous: A Historic Gathering at Camp Mooney

Last month, the spirit of the Mountain Man met the adventure of modern Scouting at the Pacific Crest Council’s 2025 Rendezvous, held at Camp Mooney. This year’s event shattered previous attendance records, bringing together over 600 Scouts and Scouters from 53 Scouting units across the council, making it the largest event in the history of both the Pacific Crest Council and Camp Mooney!

The 2025 Rendezvous offered an unparalleled blend of classic Scouting traditions and exciting, modern activities, ensuring there was something for every participant.

A Glimpse into the Rendezvous Experience:

Saturday was packed with a diverse range of activities that captivated Scouts of all ages:

  • Rendezvous Classics: Participants delved into the past with hands-on experiences like candle making, flint-and-steel fire starting, branding, blacksmithing, saw buck, and Dutch Oven cooking. These activities provided a unique opportunity to learn essential outdoor skills and appreciate the heritage of the Mountain Man.

  • Modern Scouting Adventures: Embracing the future of Scouting, the event also featured contemporary and STEM-focused activities. Scouts enjoyed engaging with HAM radio, competing in spirited games of gaga ball and human foosball, testing their knowledge in Leave No Trace Jeopardy, and exploring various Cub Scout STEM activities.

  • Range and Target Activities: The thrill of the range was alive with activities including tomahawk throwing, archery, bb guns, slingshots, and shotgun shooting, all under the guidance of experienced instructors.

  • Order of the Arrow Scavenger Hunt: The Order of the Arrow organized an exciting event-wide scavenger hunt, adding an element of mystery and teamwork to the day’s festivities.

The Dennis Page Mountain Man Mile:

A true highlight of the Rendezvous was the annual Dennis Page Mountain Man Mile. This unique and challenging approximately one-mile course requires participants to run while holding juice in their mouths, winning only if they finish with the juice still in their mouth! Congratulations to this year’s champions:

  • Cub Scouts:

    • 1st: Vincent, Pack 20
    • 2nd: Colton, Pack 48
    • 3rd: Grover, Pack 48
  • Scouts:

    • 1st: Hans, Troop 28
    • 2nd: Jackson, Troop 282
    • 3rd: Liam, Troop 161
  • Honorable Mentions:

    • Simon, Troop 282
    • Tristan, Troop 114

Leadership Development at Rendezvous:

Beyond the fun and adventure, the 2025 Rendezvous also served as a valuable opportunity for adult leaders. Several Scouters successfully completed the Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) training, further enhancing their ability to guide and inspire future generations of Scouts.

The 2025 Pacific Crest Council Rendezvous was truly a historic event, setting a new benchmark for participation and memorable experiences at Camp Mooney. The Pacific Crest Council eagerly anticipates an even more exciting and record-breaking Rendezvous in 2026! Plan to join us for another unforgettable Scouting adventure!
